Kennel Hunting Pride is a small-scale kennel situated in Siggerud, just outside Oslo. We selectively breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks and occasionally we have a litter of Alaska Huskies bred for sled dog racing although these are bred for our own use and rarely sold. The kennel consists of four Ridgeback bitches and four males where only two live with us, the rest lives with other families on breeding terms. We also have ten adult Alaska Huskies. Bjørn is the competitive one so he races the sled dogs while the Ridgebacks and the horse are Kamilla's hobbies. Kamilla has a university degree in ethology and enjoys studying the dogs' behaviour and language and the mentality of the dogs is highly valued and the main concern when breeding.
We strive to breed good dogs by the standard (for Ridgebacks that is), both mentally and physically. Our aim is to make dogs of high quality with true breed type and excellent temperament. In order to accomplish this we only breed from healthy stock which are all x-rayed and found free from hip and elbow dysplasia. If possible, we want the dogs in our breeding programme to have gone through a MH (Swedish mentality-test) so that their temperament is objectively evaluated. We never compromise on temperament! We follow the ethical guidelines for breeding of the Norwegian Kennel Club and those of the Norwegian Rhodesian Ridgeback Club. After selecting for mentality and health issues, we also want to breed dogs that have all the essential details of the Ridgeback - long and symmetrical ridges, dogs of acceptable height to the standard with all the functional qualities that makes up this breed.
As for the huskies which have no standard as the breed is not recognized by the FCI, we only breed from healthy dogs with the best capacity as race dogs, preferably only lead dog to lead dog matings. We strive to make each generation better than the previous and do not hesitate to use males from other mushers if that combination is what we think will give the best puppies. In addition to making fast dogs with capacity to run middistance races, we prefer dogs with medium coat, strong feet and paws and outgoing personalities.
Our puppies are sold with NKK registration certificate and pedigree and a veterinary examination certificate (Ridgebacks). They are dewormed and identity marked with microchip. We provide food for the first days together with a handbook containing information about the feeding regime they are used to and require. Included in the handbook are some tips and advice and some general info.
We offer lifetime support and assistance for our puppies and their new families.
In return we expect all new owners to x-ray their dogs (Ridgebacks) before two years of age and to accept that we wish to keep a close contact with all puppies from us. We only sell dogs to people who have a genuine interest in the breed and who will offer the puppy an active home and treat it like a member of the family.
